The number of providers you connect to depends on how many WAN interfaces the computer hosting UserGate has. An administrator can then create NAT rules that connect different user groups to different providers. This may prove helpful when, for example, it is necessary to provide a certain number of users with a high-speed Internet connection while other users utilize a different connection.
The connection failover feature provides a switch to a secondary connection once the primary connection has been broken. To enable Connection Failover, you must have at least two WAN-connections, or a WAN and a Dial-up connection.
In the settings for Connection Failover, you can define one or several ”control hosts”. ”Control host” refers to a website whose accessibility is checked at regular intervals by UserGate. The control host may not respond, meaning that the primary connection has been broken and the switch to another connection needs to be made. The site continues to be checked until it becomes available again, in which case the users are switched back to the primary Internet connection.
