DHCP support

UserGate allows you to automate the process of assigning IP addresses to computers in your local network. You enable the DHCP service in the UserGate server settings and specify on which existing network interface it should operate. Every time a computer is connected to or leaves the network, the DHCP server assigns a new IP address (inserts a new entry into the dynamically updated list) or makes the released IP address available again (removes the corresponding entry from the list).

When configuring the DHCP service, it is necessary, at a minimum, to define an IP address range, mask, and the amount of time a client keeps its lease on its IP address (lease time). IP addresses will be supplied from the range (address pool) you defined in the settings, but there is also an option to set exclusion ranges and reservations. Additional settings include default gateway, DNS, WINS, domain, and proxy auto configuration.

When the DHCP service is enabled and assigning IP addresses, the respective MAC addresses and lease times are shown in the bottom pane of UserGate Administration Console window. The administrator can also manually release an IP address in the list by right-clicking on it.
