It is critically important to ensure that all traffic going into a local network is cleaned of viruses and spyware. If you prefer not to use antivirus software on each local workstation, then UserGate Proxy can provide antivirus control for you by checking all inbound and outbound traffic using the protocols: SMTP and POP3 (E-mail), HTTP (web traffic) and FTP.
If you use anti-virus software on the Proxy server (used as a gateway to the Internet) you can be sure that all Internet traffic is scanned. In this case only the one system that filters all the traffic needs to be regularly updated with the most up-to-date antivirus definitions. So network administrators do not have to rely on each individual desktop to be updated.
Entensys has partnered with Panda Security to provide Antivirus scanning functionality for UserGate. The Panda antivirus engine is integrated into UserGate Proxy so that Panda Security works as a filter intercepting all data transferred through various Internet protocols. From all traffic it selects only those objects which are subject to control and analyzes them for viruses and spyware. The administrator has the option to exclude specific users from this general checking.
Updates to the antivirus database can be performed either automatically or manually from the Entensys website.
