Entensys Announces UserGate Proxy & Firewall 5.3
05.20 2010
UserGate Proxy & Firewall 5.3 features Windows Integrated Authentication support and Active Directory synchronization. Additionally, certain changes into the traffic control system were introduced; for example, exceptions are now available in the URL category filtering module.
Integration of the latest version of Kaspersky Antivirus engine is one of the key changes in UserGate Proxy & Firewall 5.3. This new version of antivirus includes an updated database of virus signatures and heuristics module to help detect similar threats, support of over 4,000 formats of archivers and compressors and an advanced heuristics module.
Modifications made to the activation system allow users to order additional sessions and test the antivirus modules during the trial period. Another change is a separate license registration of Entensys URL Filtering module.
All registered users of previous 5.x versions can update their product to the new version free of charge. Users who want to get a closer look at the program can download a fully-functional 30-day trial version from the vendor’s website: www.entensys.com/download.
Set Active Directory synchronization parameters (domain name, controller address, log-in, password and polling interval in seconds) on the Group page and select the AD group to synchronize with in UserGate group properties. Users from the selected domain groups will be automatically added to the corresponding UserGate groups. Authorization type will be set to “HTTP (NTLM) authorization”.
Used both with and without AD synchronization. Based on SSO (Single Sign On) method: set proxy address and port in the client’s browser settings to enable automatic authorization in UserGate when requesting any website. Authorized users will have access to all UserGate services, including NAT rules.
New SDK v.8 is now used to replace the old version of SDK v.4. Virus definitions in the new Kaspersky SDK do not support older definitions. Launch virus definitions update before running the antivirus application and wait the update process to complete. If you were running UserGate 5.2 with Kaspersky Antivirus, install UserGate 5.3 on top of the older version to keep your current license active (install UserGate 5.3 without removing UserGate 5.2; the new version will be installed correctly)!
Entensys URL Filtering module (BrightCloud in older versions) now requires individual registration. UserGate 5.3 comes with a 30-days trial license for URL Filtering module. Complete the update procedure (purchase license) to use the filtering capability upon expiry of the trial period.
Online registration procedures are now used in the new UserGate version. You may request a trial license (30 days) or a full license key via a special form on UserGate administrator console. You ca also use this special form to update (include antivirus modules and URL Filtering module) or upgrade (increase the number of sessions) your UserGate.
For example, you can create a rule to deny access to the Social Networks category and specify a website from this category (i.e. facebook.com) that will be an exception from the rule. In older versions, you could set exceptions for IP-address (addresses) only.
You can now apply one Traffic Manager rule to several LAN users even if their IP addresses do not belong to one continuous interval.
